HUMUNAHUMUNAHUMUNA HUMUNA

October 22nd, 2002 @ 10:42PM

Poets of rhythm Poets of rhythm!.
New CD. If any band ever deserved your money it is them, I actually feel guilty for having downloaded it, it's fucking magic.
They are doing what every wannabe jazz school graduate boring, lazy pseudo funk band tries to do and fails, groovy, deep and psychedelic, go buy it ...NOW!

why is it that whenever I post anything, shit becomes a hornet's nest?
I think I'm a pretty moderate guy, maybe that's the problem.

What is it about being young that makes you so subjective in terms of morals and principals?
When I was in my late teens, I determined my beliefs on what worked,( or seemed to work), for me and fuck everyone else. If I tried acid and had a good time then as far as I was concerned, LSD was wonderful in every way, everyone should do it, and anyone who tries to stop me from doing it is evil. Who cares if the next guy took acid and freaked out and jumped off an apartment balcony, that's his problem.
Like Spock said, " the good of the many outway the needs of the few".
It doesn't matter if you like to do something, what matters is the cumulative effect of many people doing said thing at once on a culture. If the effect is positive, than it should be legal, if it's negative than it should be illegal. Simple

One of my biggest pet peeves is the way the term 'Nazi' gets thrown around and the gratuitous use of nazi imagery.
Not only does it water down the horror of what Nazi Germany represented, it exposes the the user of such terminology as a sheltered, obnoxious loudmouth who needs to understand what Nazism was all about before he starts describing people or governments as such.
On this planet there is no nation, government, corporation or any other organisation that can come close to the raw malice, aggression and brutal efficiency associated with nazi Germany.

Maceo was great, although the acoustics were the shits.
It's funny, its a new room, supposedly built for live music but it's just a big, hollow, concrete cube. It sounded like a high school gym.
The trombonist had the highest range I've ever heard.
Some friends of mine were on mushrooms and I couldn't join them because i had to be up early to take a course, I envy their heightened enjoyment of the concert. Maybe next time.

I'm going to see Maceo Parker tonight.
Anyone who hasn't yet heard 'Life on planet groove' should check it out.
It might be the funkiest live album ever.
His studio stuff is not comparable.

Why is it that funk ages so poorly?
It seems to me that most funk pioneers have a limited creative window. Usually between the ages of 18 and 35. After that, they just start to suck.
Consider all of these once great artists that have lost the ability to make groovy, fresh relevant music...
Stevie Wonder
Prince
Earth Wind & Fire
Kool&the Gang
Chicago
Tower of Power
Michael Jackson
just to name a few...

Sammy Davis jr. wins by one vote... 1-0.
How 'bout this, who is the coolest psychedelic-soul, muzak vocal group, Fifth Dimension or Rotary Connection, and who was hotter, Minnie Ripperton or Marylin McCoo?

September 2nd, 2002 @ 10:45PM

i'm taking votes, of these two versions of "the theme from Shaft", which do you think is the whitest and why??
1. Sammy Davis jr.
2.101 strings.
